The event is designed to provide artists with a space to showcase their work without the hierarchy or competition associated with prize-based exhibitions. For its 7th edition, the Textile Art International Triennial TexpoART invites artists to engage with the theme “ORDER AND CHAOS”, opening a space for artistic reflection and dialogue.
We are going through times of planetary convulsions, of syntheses and openings that bring great turbulence to human activity. Order, also seen as predictability, can be identified as a kind of fog that prevents any anticipation, as well as the control of one's own development. The cosmic order is disturbed, the elements associated with the idea of chaos in the collective mind, such as disease, death, storm, drought, eclipse, earthquakes, invasions of enemies seem to dominate the world. This days, the fragile balance of order tends to transform into chaos. But, let's not forget, chaos is considered the personification of the initial state of the universe, an unlimited and indefinite space, pre-existing the cosmic order. The concepts of order and chaos refer to two opposing and complementary forces, which govern various aspects of life, from the physical universe to personal experiences. Order represents structure, stability, predictability, while chaos implies disorganization, uncertainty, but, extremely importantly, the potential for change.
In real life order provides the basis for evolution, while chaos develops creativity, discovers opportunities, and contributes to adaptation processes. Even more, in the field of visual arts the two concepts intertwine. The theme ORDER AND CHAOS proposes to the artists to develop the dynamic, antagonistic relationship of these concepts with the means of textile arts. In art, order is often identified with a clear composition, chromatic harmony, and perfect execution, but it can seem banal and boring. In contrast, chaos acts as a disruptive force—unsettling yet expressive, with the potential to unlock new possibilities.
Depending on what each artist proposes, the resulting works may deal with one concept, the other, or both, applied to the inner universe, to nature, or to social life. The theme invites philosophical reflection and, why not, new experiments as wel.
TexpoART is open to professionals and master students in the field of Textile Arts with art works of medium size, made in the last 3 years.
Any textile techniques and any materials, traditional or unconventional, with witch the artists can configure their own interpretation of the idea of NEW START in a contemporary formula are accepted.
